So lately there has been a lot of talk around my circle of friends about online dating. It’s amazing to me what a black and white issue people think this is - you’re either in or you’re out…unless of course you’re me.
I’m not trying to be cool, but I really feel like my reason for being on the fence is a little different than the usual suspects.
I work in social media. I spend every day, in and out, talking to people about building relationships and conversation, strengthening community and the value of being transparent. So, it won’t be much surprise to you that I’m all for people meeting online. I meet people every day online. I haven’t swapped saliva with any of them, but in a non-professional setting I don’t see it as being unreasonable.
So then why aren’t I engaged in online dating?
Well, one of my greatest fears of online dating is that I will be “matched” with my brother. We’re siblings, we grew up in the same house and share a lot of interests. If I were to be matched with him - I would seriously have to consider killing myself.
